Last night, I went to Lady Cheerleader’s class only to discover that I had left one of my ballet shoes at home. I was like, crap. I might have to dance barefoot, and my toes are especially skanky from not having touched up the polish since summer ended.
But my fellow students told me to go to the lost-and-found basket and see if I can find shoes that fit. I was like, what? People leave their shoes behind here? They directed me there and not only did I come across this ginormous basket filled with discarded toe and flat shoes, there was also an entire garbage bag full of them right behind the basket! After rummaging through, I found one that fit (there were lots of single shoes left behind). Hallelujah! Still, class was a mite uncomfortable because the shoe wasn’t quite the same caliber as my Juliets.
To avoid this incident from happening again, I decided to put together a “dance bag” and stuff all my dance-related gear inside. First, I had to pick just the right kind of bag. Of course this can’t be any old gym bag. After much deliberation, I decided on a red-and-white Vera Bradley-style quilted bag. Delicate and pretty. Next, I took all my ballet gear and put them inside—ballet shoes, wraparound skirt, and the lone extra ballet slipper to return to my studio. Then I gathered all my hip hop gear and stuffed it in—dance sneakers, elbow pads, knee pads, fingerless gloves. It’s pretty full. I might need a bigger bag in the future, especially when the time comes and I have to take toe shoes and a change of clothes with me. But at least (for now) this bag will (hopefully) keep me organized.
