Okay, my butt cheeks seem to be in a perpetual state of soreness these days. Is this what professional dancers feel like day in, day out? This constant pain-filled hobbling from one place to another except when they’re in the studio or onstage? Or is it just my age, which by the way, will advance by one year two Fridays from now?
Back to the state of my ass (SOMA): in an attempt to improve my turnout, I’ve been stretching and stretching and stretching. Methinks I might have overstretched. While I always enjoy a mild state of soreness, it usually disappears after a day or two. But this ass-soreness has been with me for the last two weeks to the point where my flexility has actually decreased! Yikes! I might have to take a break from the stretching!
It was kickboxing class last night and for the first time, no one in my class left early! Hallelujah! That tells me two things: that my students are getting fitter, and that they’re really enjoying my teaching methods. I mix up kickbox combinations with athletic drills and throw in some across-the-floor work and some simulated stick fighting using body bars. Fun! Last night, there was a guy who, at the end of class, looked like got hosed down, that’s how drenched he was with sweat. Hee! Love it when the guys find my class as hard as the girls.
Tonight is rest night: nothing tonight but recuperation. Oh, and some at-home weight lifting while watching the boob tube. Ciao!
